While this has not been totally documented, the most commonly used number for CS Troops is approximately 60,000. As far as US about 5,500 Black troops and approximately 8,000 White. If my thesis research serves as a model, Saline County sent about 50% of "military age" men to service in CSA. This age ranges from 10-65 from the 1860 census information. Early there were a few 60+ year old men and in 1864 a few 14 year old boys. I am sure other counties exceeded this percentage and some may not but I would predict about 50% of all military aged men served.
