The Arkansas in the Civil War Message Board

Re: William Temple and the Civil War

I go this message back from Park Temple when I forwarded your message on to Dr. Parker Temple.
His reply is that the man was in the CSA.
Can you see where this William Temple ever belonged to the
CSA or is Dr. Park Temple's information mixed up?
If he rode with the 1st Arkansas Cav., the man would not have been able to file for a Union pension that is for sure unless the Union service followed.
Were there two men in service in Arkansas by the name of William Temple? The reason I am asking is that we want to get it correct.
Thanks-
Linda

My reply from Dr. Temple:
I have a William Hubbard Temple, b 1838 in either Williamson or Davidson Co., TN, who entered the military in the Civil War at age 24 in 1862. He enlisted in the Confederate Army on 1 Jul 1862 as a private in Capt. James Allison's Company D, First Regiment of Arkansas Cavalry, along with his brother Francis. He was discharged Aug 1865 at Fayetteville, AR. I don't have a definitive death date, in the winter of 1916 or 1917, and the place was Rudy, Crawford, AR. I had not seen his burial location before.
