Re: Andrew Walker who deserted June 2, 1862

Barbara,

The "Napoleon Grays," Co. D, 15th (Josey's) Arkansas Infantry, was organized at Napoleon, in Desha County, and recruited almost entirely from residents of that now-extinct river port. The majority of them were Irish-born riverboat men, dock hands and warehouse workers. No Ouachita County men served in this company.

The Texas Confederate pension index lists an Andrew Jackson Walker who applied from Trinity County (Pension No. 21424), and later an application from his widow Azalean Walker (Pension No. 38894).
