Mahlon, sometimes the creative spelling of names in the original records can thwart a researcher. One of the purposes of the database I've put together is to correlate the misspelled names with the properly spelled names. So if you ever run into a roadblock on a certain soldier, let me know and I'll see if I can find him for you.

Also, you've probably noticed that in Union records, the soldier's company sometimes doesn't match up with the company designated in a pension application or headstone. In U.S. Volunteer regiments, it was not at all unusual for a man to be switched from company to company. The CSR index normally lists the company the man originally enlisted in, but does not always reflect which subsequent companies he served in.

You have really added to your records since I last visited your website. Thanks for saving those old soldiers from oblivion.
