There was another newspaper published in Little Rock at the time called the Arkansas Gazette. That paper is not to my knowledge available online, but is on Microfilm at several of the central Arkansas Libraries. You might check that source for additional information.

Alf Johnson is an interesting personality. My interest in his exploits centers around his activities against federals at the St Charles, Clarendon, Pine Bluff, Arkansas Post and White River areas in the summer and fall of 1862, when the Confederate forces were reorganizing after Arkansas was abandoned by Van Dorn and moved his entire army east of the Mississippi.

A lot of the forces which operated at St. Charles and were captured at Arkansas Post January 11th,'63 were organized at Pine Bluff, Ar. So, I am sure that Johnson at least passed throught the town from time to time.
