I always thought McPheeters' plight would make a great movie, especially the scenes of his harrassment in St. Louis, Sallie's encounter with Mrs Grant on the steamboat to Helena, and the saga of Sallie's banishment and Dr. McP's peregrination to find her. In fact, Cynthia Pitcock and I seriously considered writing a screen play for the book, but in this era of political correctness, I doubt anyone would even consider such a project.
