According to the Monks book several men went from Howell County Mo. to help Ark. Gov. Clayton fight the Ku Klux Klan after the Civil War. Monks said they organized 7th Reg. of State Guards. This was about Sept. 1868. William Monks was promised rank of Lt. Col.
Also looks like William made his brother F. M. Monks Capt. of one company.
