Hi Mike -
reread your posting and am particularly intrigued by the following statement:
"These negroes had been enlisted in Ark. from the same county that the 13th came from. The negro soldiers and their white officers had rendered themselves particularly obnoxious to the Ark. people by their unrestrained conduct, accounts of which had reached the 13th regiment."
I am thinking that the incorrect "13th" reference may refer to either the 11th Ark. or the 17th Ark. I am guessing that the 11th Ark. may be the more likely since it was largely from the Saline County area and probably (?) had a larger slave population than NW Arkansas (where the 17th Ark. was formed).....???
Anthony - what are you thoughts on this??????
Wondering if it might be possible to scour the 1860 slave lists for the Ark. counties where both the 11th and 17th Arkansas Infantries were formed and actually correlate some slave owners (names of slaves?) with the Black soldiers at Jackson, LA in 1863...??????
