Joseph Black Jr. CSA d.Trans-Mississippi Theater

For several years I have been looing for information on Joseph Black Jr. His father is Josepsh Black mother Mary (Polly) White. Family lore stated they moved from PA to Washington Court house (now Koenton, Alabama).

Joseph Jr. apprently served in a unit in the Transmississippi Department. Was killed between 1861-1865. I know no unit information, date etc. I posted to an AL Civil War board and a very kind person gave me the following information.

The 1850 and 1860 census of Choctaw County AL lists the birthstate of Mary S. Black as Tennessee. In 1860 they live near a Mr. Koen in Bladon Springs (Choctaw County) AL, the household including all the same members as it did in 1850 except for Joseph Black (Jr.), who is missing.

Joseph Black Sr. married Polly White in Washington County in December 1830, and apparently died during the 1840s. I see no evidence that he ever lived in Mobile County.

There is a Joseph Black born ca. 1835 in Alabama living in Pulaski County AR in 1860. That may explain the Trans-Mississippi reference, since Arkansas is west of the river.

Based on the Joseph Black in Pulaski Co AR it was suggested I post to this board for assistance in finding our more on the CSA service of Joseph Black Jr.

Any assistance would be most appricated. Please reply to evans.nr@gmail.com
