The Arkansas in the Civil War Message Board

There's at least two or three variants of the Van Dorn flags, differing mostly in the arrangement of the stars, but there's also variation in the border. Some have a yellow cloth border, some are white, some have gold fringe instead of the yellow cloth, and at least one or two have both the yellow cloth border and the gold fringe...

The Arkansas and Missouri infantry regiments that served with the Army of the West appear to have been issued these colors sometime between Pea Ridge (Mar. 1862) and the Corinth Campaign (Sept. thru Oct. 1862). The 3rd Louisiana was the Pelican State's only contributor, Texas sent only cavalry to this organization. Some of these colors were still serving in the Vicksburg campaign and at Port Hudson in the summer of 1863.
