It doesn't sound right, at least the commanders--but I'll keep it for reference. My clues are enlisted 1863 Drew County, Ark, and CO A CMDR Hawthorn, Capt Thompson served 14 mos surrendered at Louiston, TX. Belles Reg was also mention in notes about his pension application.

I think your references to James J are are the Shoemaker who is brother to Ambrose M and Asberry S. Those three all served from Arkansas too. I have no further about James J after his capture at Arkansas Post, and suspect he died. Family says he "didn't come home".

J A J Shoemaker, is a cousin I think--a different man.
