>>>>Rice who commanded the 33rd Iowa Inf, but commanded 2nd BDE states in his report (of which he mentions 33rd Iowa and 33rd MO) that his command captured 3 colors.>>>
I have interpreted the above as being one flag from Hawthorne's Ark. regiment (33rd MO capture - sent to St. Louis) and two from Bell's.
Do you or anyone else here concur with that?
>>>>Have you checked into the other flags supposedly taken in town when the Missouri Reg't under Parson's were surrounded and captured? I have not seen much discussion on these flags. LTC Heath of 33rd MO mentions his companies that took part in the attack on Ft Curtis and mentions his troops taking 350 prisoners mainly of 7th and 10th Missouri as well as their colors.>>>>
I have not focused on these flags much. I will have to re-read Heath's report as it seems that his regiment was split and fought in two places at Helena.
I do not have Ed Bearss' essay in the Arkansas Historical Quarterly for this battle - what do his maps show by chance?
