Wow! What a great post. Thanks for explaining the background of the split of the Methodist Episcopal Church. I've seen many references to the M.E. Church, South, but I never knew exactly what that was. The Federal order regarding the seizure of the "disloyal" churches smelled bad when I first read it, and seems even more onerous now that I understand the context. Thanks again.
