Believe it or not, I have heard of those happenings.
I have also encountered some about the Indians.
As you may remember I teach school and two of the chapter books I read every year to my little darlings are Little House in the Big Woods(where the uncle has come home from the war and is wild) and Little House on the Prairie where the Indian raids, etc are mentioned in rather clean terms.
