Shazam! Yes, sir, his widow, Mrs. C. A. E. Welch, applied for a Confederate pension from Montgomery County 1914, citing her late husband's service in Co. C, 42nd Arkansas Infantry, 1862-1864 (wounded). Her application was approved on August 10, 1914 (Pension No. 7052).

A little additional information from my database -- John Welch was born in 1833 in Tennessee, and died in 1908. He is interred in Oak Grove Cemetery in Montgomery County. When the war started he was a resident of Clark County.

I have a kind of oddball record for him that I can't explain. He appears on an August 31, 1864, report as a patient at Hospital No. 9, Richmond, Virginia. I don't know how he ended up way over there.
