I agree with you about Hindman.

But I also believe he did what was necessary to rebuild from the destruction caused by Van Dorn. He might have made people mad, But what he had to do took extraordinary measures whether anyone else liked it or not.

And what he accomplished in the face of a veteran Union army was just that, extraordinary to say the least. I can not think of another simular situational example of such a thing in history. You are well aware of my interest in that period of History in southeast Arkansas.

It is too bad that Richmond didn't see fit to send the Trans Mississippi a couple of good generals to help out like Hardee and Cleburne. With them two shaping up the Confederates by training here in Arkansas, the old Arkansas and Texas boys would have taken St Louis.
