Near Dardanelle where part of the CW era road crossed the river there still remain sandstone "mile markers" along portions of the road. Do you think that this may also have assisted the estimation of distance along some roads. I'm not sure how extensive such a system would have been in Arkansas during the CW, but it seems plausible. Have you, or anyone else on this message board, ever heard of this before?
