I had always doubted the Tennessee River account. I have really suspected that he probably died on the Barren River. Hardee's men were all generally camped along the south and west side of the Barren River just north and slightly east of Bowling Green during that period. I have no solid proof of Barren River being the site of his death however, just speculation on my part. Unless his unit was on patrol, the Green River site would have been about 20 miles north of the encampment for the 6th Arkansas.
