Thank you Linda. I reside in the Smithville area, and I would like locate his grave and to do that. Space is still available in the Smithville Cemetery, though I dont believe any is close to his son's grave. Several years ago, the community banded together and we had a bronze marker made to honor the Seventh Arkansas Infantry, which camped and recruited in Smithville, prior to moving to Pocahontas to muster into Confederate service. Robert Shaver's post-war photograph hangs in the Community Building. In the past we have requested and obtained several markers through the VA for confederate veterans.
I am with you. He surely deserves recognition. My understanding a college in Texas has some of his personal papers, mostly medical. I am hoping to locate the college and see if any clues or information directly from Dr. Mcalexander or his family are located there.
