Arkansans in the Missouri Militia

In my never-ending quest to document the Civil War service of all the military-age men of Arkansas, I chanced upon another organization containing Arkansans. I was curious why a number of Carroll County men of military age didn't show up on the rosters of any Arkansas regiments (Confederate or Union), so I ran a few of the names through the Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System, and, voila!, I found them in, of all places, the Enrolled Missouri Militia.

Co. N, 73rd Regiment Enrolled Missouri Militia, consists entirely of Arkansans, most from Carroll County, and many of whom were formerly members of a Unionist home guard company commanded by Capt. George Ellis Gaddy, of Carroll County.

Company N was mustered into service at Springfield, Missouri, on October 2, 1864, and ordered into active service to oppose Price's Missouri incursion. They were released from service on March 10, 1865. The other companies of this regiment appear to be from various southern counties of Missouri.

If anyone is interested in this company, I'll be glad to put together a roster and post it.

Another mystery solved!
