"Southern Unionist"

This subject reminds me that back about 1968 a buddy of mine went to central Kansas to help his brother remodel an old farm house and in doing so they found a bundle of old letters dated back to 1863 & 64. Many of these letters were between a young Union soldier in Nashville and his father in Linn Co MO (Browning MO) neither the soldier or his father had anything good to say about the Federals apparently this family had moved to Missouri from Southern Indiana because in several letters they referred to their friends and relatives there and in one letter the soldier mentioned John Hunt Morgans great raid as said "I hope they killed and burnt out a lot of them D. Yankees down home".

The last letter from this Union soldier told of the approach of Hoods army and said they were sure to be in for a big fight....penned to the bottom of this letter was a notation "KIA Nashville" about a week after letter was wrote.

My Buddy attempted to locate descendants of this family but I never heard what the outcome was.
