Hello. Have you thought of contacting the White County Historical Society in Searcy? Those folks are interested in everything and have lots of documented history.
Since the White River had a big impact on the development of the county, it is very possible that they do know something even if the site you are speaking of is not within their county. The mailing address is PO Box 537, Searcy, Arkansas, 72145 if you wish to contact them. The group prints a rather nice newsletter and it goes out all over the United States.
While I feel sure this is not quite what you had in mind, it may help.
