Re: 18th Marmaduke's Arkansas Infantry

This may be comincal, but I reenact as a Capt. of 3rd Confederate Inf, Co E, in California. We had an oral story here that there were mustered in a company of "escaped convicts" from Iowa, into the 3rd, presumably at the time of redesignation in January of 1862 in Pocahontas, Ark. Any truth to this? A more important question for me is, "which Tennessee company and which two Mississippi companies were combined with the Marmaduke's 18th?" Also were these combined in Vickeburg, before arriving at pocahontas? Just some loose ends for me.
