Re: Ladies Signed The Amnesty Oath?

A few years ago, I noticed some enlistments at Prentiss, Mississippi, in a command "not stated," and I knew that Prentiss was within spittin' distance of Desha County, Arkansas, but I never pursued the possibility that some of those Desha County men had enlisted in a Mississippi regiment.

Now I know for sure that at least one man did, and, based on a comparison of names in the 1860 Desha County census with a roster of the 28th Mississippi, it looks very possible that others did, too. I need to get a hold of an annotated copy of the 28th Mississippi roster so I can compare age, nativity, and other data, before I go out out on a limb with this. But it sure looks promising at this point.

It'd be great to be able to acknowledge the service of those Desha County mystery men. I was on Cloud Nine when I was able to recently tie some Carroll County mystery men to a Missouri militia regiment. Ah! Life's simple pleasures.
