Does anyone have information to share --- or care to speculate on former confederate army Captain Oliver Crosby Gray of Company A, 3rd Regiment Arkansas Calvary.

His records have copy of his July 17th 1864 letter from Sandtown, Georgia, to General Samuel Cooper requesting to resign his commission and the army to join confederate navy, giving four reasons. It also has document 19th August approving same (2-wks before loss of Atlanta).

He was captured attempting to cross Mississippi
river at Choctow Bend, 16th November and interred at Ship Island, Mississippi. Why was he listed Capt 3rd Regiment Ark Cav? He was exchanged 2 March 1865, them home in Princeton, Arkansas April 1st.
