Thanks for the info. Perhaps he joined Freeman's outfit after leaving, getting separated, etc. from his former infantry unit. One branch of my family still has his old muzzle-loader he carried during the war. My dad, as a youth, used to ask his grandfather about his war experiences, and found him to be very closed-mouth. He would say only, "Well, we ran them out of a fence corner once or twice."
