Re: Enfield cavalry carbines used by Price's men

Bill,

Thanks much for this information regarding the "Marshall, Texas Enfield" bullets having been recovered from various cavalry campsites used by Shelby, Marmaduke, Cabell et al just prior to Price's fall 1864 expedition. This seems to dovetail with the reports from the OR and Luttrell's account cited that Enfields were being used by some of Price's men in the MO expedition. Yet it is still evidence of a general nature corroborating that some Enfields were used by the Confeds. during Price's months-long raid, but not specifying whether they were rifle muskets, rifles, cavalry cabines or artillery musketoons. The specific information I seek may be in some little known or yet undiscovered ordnance reports, officer correspondence, diaries, letters, etc. I can only hope that it will yet turn up. And thanks again for your input on this matter regarding recovered Enfield-type bullets at relevant campsites.

Mike
