Andrew Dodd was a merchant for a time in PB in 1859-60. David probably learned it then. The family was from Saline County and is listed on the 1860 Saline Co census, but the family did a short stay in PB according to the letters of Dodd found at the History Comm. When David learned the craft has not been documented but he did learn it as he procurred his first job in 1862 down in Delhi LA on the Miss River. He worked there until he went across the river to assist his dad with the sutler business with the 3rd Ark Cav. When David returned home to LR to get his mother and sisters, and they stayed there a while, he got a job clerking I believe in a store there. At no time did he work as a telegrapher in 1863 in LR.
