Oddly enough Andrew Dodd was responcible for saving the David O Dodd monument at the Jefferson County Courthouse.

In late 1989 the local chapter of the NAACP wanted to have the monument removed fron courthouse property because it was supposed to be racist. It seemed that Andrew Dodd was a deacon of a church in Pine Bluff that is now claimed to be the oldest black church in Pine Bluff claiming their founding as being in 1864.

However the church existed as a mixed congregation church as far back as 1850. The church had both white and black deacons and would elect both white and black preachers. These offices were NOT segregated either they would elect only one preacher at a time for the whole congregation.

This piece of history persuaded the County Government to leave David's statue where it was.

It has been said that Andrew Dodd may have had a connection with Mr. Snow and Ketchum in the founding of the PB Telegraph Company, but I have not seen any documentation of that.

From Tom's post I was hoping to find that connection.
