Re: Bradley County, Arkansas Soldiers

I am trying to determine actual birthplace of my great great grandfather. We have searched for years. Can anyone help?

Henry C Orr was born in North or South Carolina ca1825.Bradley County AR Census 1860 indicate that both husband and wife were born in North Carolina. Records indicate that he was in Alabama, 1850 with wife Susan Cason and later in Bradley County, Arkansas 1860.There he left his wife and 5 children in May, 1862 and joined Company I, 2nd Regiment, Arkansas Infantry, CSA at Camden, Ark.s Brigade. They participated in the various campaigns and Henry Orr endured the various casualties and misfortunes of war as a member of Govan's Brigade. .At the Battle of Atlanta , Govan's brigade headquarters were so far forward that Govan and his staff were captured by the Yanks. But later Govan broke away and with other Confederate forces repulsed his captors. However, in one of the engagements, Henry C. Orr was wounded on July 22, 1864 and carried to a hospital. Sketchy information indicate that while being moved he was killed in a train wreck. Some data suggests that he died of wounds Aug. 15, 1864.
