Re: M. Horn & M. Samuels ~ Jewish ~ Arkansas ~ CSA

Marx Horn was a 31-year-old Austrian-born merchant living in Little Rock when the war started. He joined Willett's Company Arkansas Volunteers on June 10, 1862, and was marked present for duty on a muster roll dated July 25, 1862. That's all that is contained in his service record.

Willett's Company was organized to serve as a provost guard for the Post of Little Rock, and was comprised mostly of men who were not subject to the Conscript Act -- because of age, citizenship, or deferment.

There's no record of Mark Samuels in any Arkansas regiment, nor in the 1860 census record of Pulaski County. He must have served in a regiment organized in another State.
