Doyle, no criticism of Sergeant Miears' narrative was implied. I just wanted to make sure that any researchers wanting to cite it in their research understand that it's not a contemporary account, such as you'd find in a diary written within a day or two of the events described; rather, it was written years after the war.
That being said, its historical value cannot be overstated. Any kind of first-person account by a member of the 2nd Arkansas Battalion is as scarce as hens' teeth -- heck, even the official records are few and far between -- so the Miears' narrative is one of the most important 2nd Arkansas Battalion documents I know of.
