Doyle, talking about trying to figure out a complicated battle, I just finished reading Kenneth W. Noe's book on the battle of Perryville, Kentucky -- by far the most bizarrely complicated Civil War battle I know of. Several years ago I sat down with the Official Records and tried to figure the thing out -- I made a couple of charts and drew lines on maps and still couldn't work it out. But Mr. Noe did it. It's a fantastic book, and gives due justice to the Arkansas troops who played a prominent role, and to Pat Cleburne whose tactics Mr. Noe described as brilliant.
When I get time, I'm going to write up a review and post it. This is definitely a must-read for us Arkansas types.
