The Arkansas in the Civil War Message Board

Re: co e26th regt.arkansas inf.

I know that the advent on this message board has enabled me to fill in a lot of blanks and resolve the identities of a lot of Arkansas soldiers, thanks to the input of fellow researchers. As a result, an update to the Gerdes page is imperative, but unlikely. Jim's offer of webspace would enable us to build a bigger and better Arkansas regimental page.

I would like to see it dedicated to Ed Gerdes, since he is the daddy of the whole concept. When he first approached me about working together to jointly post our research, I didn't think it would be much more than an obscure website that only a few hard-core researchers would be interested in. But, I had decades of research sitting in my files, benefitting no one, so I decided to start posting it on his site. The result was phenomenal. I had no idea there was so much interest in Arkansas regiments and soldiers. It has certainly made all those years of poring over a hot microfilm reader worth it.

I just hate it that the webpage has stagnated since Ed's death. I do what I can to update things on this message board, but it would be nice to have a new, active and updatable website devoted to Arkansas regiments, rosters, soldiers, etc.
