In this day and age I know for a fact that salt water is still used to help sore throats.
I am now happy to say that I am one of the baby boomers being 61 years young.
I used a salt water gargle as child as did my parents; had my own children use the salt water for a gargle; and since I am still in the primary classroom, I know for a fact that people are still using that home remedy. It is sort of like if it works, don't fix it.
I also come from a long line of folks who died with pneumonia which I nearly died from at the age of two. But thank God for the modern marvels of the day-early spring of 1949, I pulled through.
We are indeed blessed to live nowadays and be enjoying the medical care that is readily available.
I am like many folks and had more than my share die from the diseases during the Civil War. As I have said before, the over the counter remedies would have been a blessing to those folks.
Thanks for another interesting thread.
Linda
