I'm afraid I have not uncovered any new information since the last thread.
If you can navigate the archives of this forum back to Dec, 2, 2006, look at Bryan Howerton's post of that date. As I'm sure you've noticed, Bryan is our resident expert on Arkansas regiments.
Bryan discusses a "temporary" field consolidation of the 12/14/23 Arkansas regiments in early September, 1862. Apparently this included those members of the 12th Arkansas who had not been captured, who had not temporarily transferred to the 6th Ark, and who had not been put in the 33rd Arkansas by General Hindman. That wouldn't appear to leave too many of the boys of the 12th Arkansas available for this particular consolidation.
Over the next 2 weeks, when the captured portion of the 12th Arkansas was returned from prison at Vicksburg, then other segments of the regiment were brought together [with the probable exception of those in the 33rd Arkansas across the Mississippi River].
It is my opinion that the reconstituted 12th Arkansas was then subjected to additional consolidations until finally regaining their seperate regimental identity in 1863.
Believe me, I wish I could be much more specific. I would shout it to the world.
