Re: Sgt Elias Brannick, 1st Ark Cav (Union)

The Report of the Adjutant-General of Arkansas, dated November 1, 1866, states that Elias Brannick enlisted in McDonald County, Missouri, on March 3, 1862; was promoted to sergeant on July 3, 1862, and was mustered out with the regiment on August 23, 1865. A note next to Brannick's entry states that no discharge certificate was issued when he mustered out -- no explanation given.

His name appears as Brannick on the regimental rolls, but is recorded as Branick on his and his wife's pension applications and cemetery headstones. His name also appears on Branick in "The Union Defenders of Kansas."

He applied for a pension in 1866, and his widow applied in 1918. He was born in 1842 in Surry County, North Carolina, and died in 1917 at De Soto, Kansas.
