Sometimes I play wargames. Recently, I played a Chickamauga scenario of a popular wargame. Robertson's/Hood's Texas Brigade was included with the 1st, 4th and 5th Texas and the 3rd Arkansas Infantry Regiments. The units in the game have fighting abilities based on size, morale and quality of unit. Units can be ranked for quality as "Green, Trained, Good, Veteran and Elite". If you're following me, in this game, the 4th Texas Infantry is listed as "Elite", the highest ranking. The 1st and 5th Texas Infantry units are ranked as "Veteran" the next to highest ranking and the 3rd Arkansas Infantry is ranked as "Good" the next or average ranking for the game.

Now, I know there is nothing necessarily scientific about how these game designers rank Civil War units, but why would anyone in September of 1863 differentiate, so dramatically the quality of the 4th Texas, "Elite" versus the 3rd Arkansas, "Good". As far as I'm concerned ALL of the units of the Texas Brigade were outstanding units, including the 3rd Arkansas Infantry. Any comments on the game designers' reasoning?
