Mark, thanks for the response. The reports you posted are from the 11th Missouri cavalry which were stationed at Jacksonport. Andrews had them come down to Augusta to reinforce his expedition. These troops skirmished with the enemy on their way back to Jacksonport on the 24th.
The 8th Missouri was to come up from Clarendon & link up with Andrews in the area of Augusta. Instead they went on the trail of some of the confederates that had retreated from the Augusta area at Andrews approach & had this fight on the 22nd, then retreated back to Clarendon. Strangely enough any report of Andrews' doesnt mention that the 8th's part of the scout failed to link up with him. The only mention in the OR from the 8th Missouri is in ch.34 part 1, page 899. I think so little was said about this fight, at least from the 8th's perspective, because they didnt follow orders to join up with Andrews, instead going off on the trail of an enemy of unknown size, and almost being overwhelmed. Also, some of the men listed as wounded were also missing, having been captured in the retreat.
I do have the regimental returns which gives an account of the fight that day. I was sure I had read some confederate accounts of this fight online somewhere, but I cant find them now. I was just hoping someone could add any information on this small operation.
Thanks again.
