According to a casualty list submited by Colonel Kelly following the battle, L.H. Covey, Company B, 8th Arkansas Infantry was wounded slightly in the head. This list is on microfilm at the Arkansas History Commission. Also among the wounded was Thomas J. Covey who had severe knee wound. In the casualty list they are listed as L.H. and T.J. Corey.

Levin H. Covey was originally a member of Company I, which was raised in Independence County by Winfield S. Smalley and mustered into Confederate service on September 10, 1861 at Camp Price. Assuming he was not sick or detached for some reason, he would have also been a veteran of Shiloh where Company I lost its 1st Lt., Thomas B. Bateman, most likely to friendly fire. It was the 8th Arkansas and the 9th Arkansas Battalion who made the charge at Water Oaks Pond. After Shiloh, Company I was consolidated with Company D to form a new Company B.

When I have more time to look over my notes, I'll post what I know about the 8th at Murfreesboro. I believe they captured a battery there. Also feel free to e-mail me any questions you may have. I suspect one of my ancestors was also a member of the same company.
