Alan, I don't know when or where he died, but he was 56 years old when he organized a cavalry company for State service in the summer of 1861. He was also the captain of the local militia company since before the war -- Co. K, 10th Regiment Arkansas Militia. The Johnson County militia held one last muster for annual inspection and drill before disbanding -- February 22 to March 21, 1862, at Clarksville. Captain Armstrong was present for the muster. After that, I have no further record of him. He was ineligible for further Confederate service after the passage of Conscript Act -- being then 57 years old.
