I really don't know which regiment they spoke of in the report (OR, vol. 48, pt. 1: 544-545). The Feds mentioned Armstrong once, with no first name or any other designation. Thank you for the information--I will look into these two regiments.

This article was about the 22 Oct 1862 ambush of the 5th Illinois at the McAlpine plantation south of Helena.
