Re: Who captured the refugee train at Salem, Ark?

Bryce, this is something I have wondered myself. I thought I remembered seeing 2 different reports in the O.R. dealing with the refugee train being attacked at Salem. I did a search to find the other report & came across this in vol. 34, part 4, page 235.

ROLLA, MO., June 5, 1864.

Major O. D. GREENE,

Assistant Adjutant-General:

The report of the burning of train and the killing of refugees near Salem, Ark., turns out to be utterly false and unfounded. A portion of the men sent out from here to look after the train have just got in.

O. GUITAR,

Brigadier-General.

Thats interesting. It may be why nothing else was written about the subject.
