Re: Research? Becoming more Self Sufficient?

Ronnie, a source I like is the "Compendium of the Confederate Armies," by Stewart Sifakis. There are several State-specific volumes. Arkansas and Florida are combined in one volume.

The compendium covers each regiment (and battalion and battery), and gives a list of higher commands (brigade, division, corps) to which the regiment was attached, a list of engagements, a list of field officers, and a very brief history. I use the compendium a lot, especially for non-Arkansas regiments with which I am less familiar.

There are a few errors in Mr. Sifakis' work, mostly the more obscure units which recent research is finally being focused on. But overall I consider the Compendium to be a must-have resource.

The Compendium is out of print, but you can still find copies on Amazon. I have six or seven volumes, all of which I found on Amazon.
