Paroles given at Fort Smith

There were, at a minimum, 500 men from the western border counties of Ark. that were serving in the Indian Regiments in the Indian Territory at the end of the war. (Principally, Adair's and Bryan's Cherokee Reg'ts) Being white and non-members of the 5 tribes, they should have had to take paroles at Fort Smith on their return to their homes. It seems, though, that paroles issued at Fort Smith are almost non-existent. The Federal copies of the paroles should have survived being Federal documents. They should have been carded and included in the CMSR's for those soldiers and others from the border counties who chose to take a parole at that location. I would be interested in thoughts on the Fort Smith paroles and if others see the same situation I do.
