I'm on the staff at Prairie Grove. Basically we're on the list because they are widening highway 62 between Farmington and PG. All of the battlefield that can be preserved has been with the exception of one or two parcels that we are not actively pursuing (those lots have been in the families since before the battle and are not going to subdivide etc). Another popular question has been if we are going to be closed down. That's not happening either. The reason they added us this time is to make developers, city administrators and so on stop and think about what they're doing and the impact it'll have before they do it, such as build a cell tower or multi-story building overlooking the park such as is happening at Antietam. The city admin. and the planning commission folks have taken offense at this, saying they've done a good job supporting the park and think everything out before they do it. Well, after our former supt. retired the business' that supported our Memorial Day tribute pulled the money. We went to other businesses and got a total of $500. Where's the support? At Park Day last year we had 20 people show up to help. There were families from Virginia, Texas, Fayetteville and other places. How many were from Prairie Grove? 0. Again, where's the support? If the CWPT and other groups hadn't stepped in a few years ago to help buy land there is no doubt the entire PG valley would be subdivisions or strip malls. They don't care about what they call their "greatest asset. They care about the dollar.
