The book I was thinking of is WARFARE ALONG THE MISSISSIPPI, which is a collection of letters by Lt Colonel George E. Currie of the Mississippi Marine Brigade. It contains a chapter devoted to Ditch Bayou. The preceding chapter is a description of the capture of 1,200,000 thousand Confederate dollars from a paymaster. This took place near Bolivar Landing, Mississippi. The paymaster's destination was Little Rock.
Another book that Don used for a source in his book is HISTORY OF THE RAM FLEET AND MISSISSIPPI MARINE BRIGADE. This book was printed in 1907 and is very expensive, if you can find a copy. I believe Don told me that the book he used was at the Wilson Creek park in Missouri.
Hope this is of some help.
