Re: 1st AR mounted rifles - finding my uncle

James Turrentine (not shown as James F. Turrentine), Co. C, 1st Arkansas Mounted Rifles, was alive as late as the beginning of 1864. He was left behind, sick, when the 1st Arkansas Mounted Rifles was transferred to Mississippi. He subsequently joined the 4th Arkansas Cavalry, later transferring to the 7th Arkansas Cavalry. He was reported as absent on detached duty on the December 31, 1863, muster roll.

There was a John F. Turrentine, Co. G, 12th Arkansas Infantry, who died at Fort Thompson, New Madrid, Missouri, on December 1, 1861. He was carried on the rolls as J. F. Turrentine, so perhaps this was misinterpreted by some researcher to stand for James F. Turrentine. However, this was in fact John F. Turrentine, of Sevier County, Arkansas.
