Re: John T. Falls, m/w Mine Creek, KS 1864.

Justin, yes sir the Mine Creek record of John F. Falls, Jr., was misfiled in the service record of John T. Falls. The 4th Arkansas Cavalry was engaged at Mine Creek, at the same time that the 2nd Arkansas Mounted Rifles was on the other side of the Mississippi River.

John T. Falls was present for duty in the 2nd Arkansas Mounted Rifles as late as April 1865, and was paroled on May 1, 1865, in North Carolina, well after the Mine Creek fight, when John F. Falls, Jr., was killed.

It is not unusual to find the records of men with similar names from the same State to be intermixed in the Compiled Service Records. You just have to "research it out" to find out exactly who is who.

In this case, I'm sure the error occurred because the 4th Arkansas Cavalry was sometimes uofficially referred to as the 2nd Arkansas Cavalry (as well as the 9th Arkansas Cavalry and the 11th Arkansas Cavalry). The "real" 2nd Arkansas Cavalry (Slemons) was also at Mine Creek.
