In June of 1864 Gen. Steele wrote to Canby asking if the rumor that Davidson was going to be transfered back to his 7th A.C. as cavalry commander were true. He told Canby he hoped it wasnt, as "we cannot serve together in harmony". There was some bad blood between them I take it.
